September 2011 Asifakeil, Museumsquartier, Vienna
The Afissa was invented during an artist in residence at the Museumsquartier.
Maja Gehrig investigated the artistic affections of the Afissa in different experiments.
Thereupon the Afissa was offered an artist in residence at the Asifakeil.
The Afissa agreed with this proposal and lives during September in the Asifakeil exhibition space.
The Afissa is strictly nocturnal. It is a fabulous clamberer and jumper.
As the Afissa is a new Animal, little is known about its population and habitat.
It was observed that Afissas prefer specular surfaces.
The established explanation is, that the Afissa is looking at its reflection.
Another, that it only seeks for contact with assumed fellows....
Das Afissa wurde während eines Atelieraufenthaltes im Quartier 21 von Maja Gehrig erfunden.
In verschiedensten Versuchsanordnungen erforschte sie die Besonderheiten und künstlerischen
Fähigkeiten des Tieres. Dem Afissa wurde daraufhin eine Artist in Residence im Asifakeil angeboten.
Das Afissa erklärte sich mit diesem Vorschlag einverstanden und lebt nun während
des ganzen Septembers im Asifakeil.
Das Afissa ist ausschliesslich nachtaktiv. Es ist ein erstaunlicher Kletterer und Springer.
Da es sich beim Afissa um ein neues Tier handelt welches bisher noch nicht ausserhalb des Asifakeils
gesichtet wurde kann wenig über dessen Verbreitung und Lebensraum gesagt werden.
Es wurde beobachtet, dass das Afissa spiegelnde Oberflächen bevorzugt.
Es ist nicht erwiesen worauf sich diese Vorliebe gründet.
Eine mögliche Deutung ist, dass sich das Afissa im Spiegel betrachtet,
eine andere, dass es sein Spiegelbild nicht erkennt,
und in seinem Abbild den Kontakt zu vermeintlichen Artgenossen sucht.
The Afissa splits the colorants in the packages in different colors.
It spits these colors on glass panes. In that way the Afissa is marking its territory.
It is not clear if this is the only reason behind those marks or if the Afissa developed this
behaviour due to an esthetical urge. At the front window of the “Asifakeil” one of these marks can be seen.
I think one can speak of it as concrete Spitart.
The Afissa dreams in color, due to colorants and dyes in its nourishment.
Die Farbstoffe aus den gefressenen Verpackungen werden in die verschiedenen Farben aufgespalten
und als Reviermarkierung auf Glas gespuckt. Es ist unklar ob hinter diesen Markierungen tatsächlich
ein Revieranspruch steht oder ob das Tier dieses Verhalten aus ästhetischen Gründen entwickelt hat.
An der Frontscheibe des Asifakeils kann eine solche „Markierung“ betrachtet werden.
Ich glaube es handelt sich um konkrete Spuckkunst.
Das Afissa träumt farbig was evt. ebenfalls auf die herausgefilterten Farbstoffe
seiner Nahrung zurückzuführen ist.

On the Wing
«On the Wing» is een tentoonstelling gebaseerd op «Waiting in the Wings»,
een performance-festival dat tweejaarlijks plaatsvindt in het ARM.
On the Wing is een toneelachtige, toegankelijke installatie met een veranderlijke, wandelende inborst.
Na een klaterende begin in ’t Brandweer gaat «On the Wing» op reis door de thuissteden van de 40 Europese kunstenaars,
die aan de tentoonstelling en het Performance-festival meededen.
De opening op 5 December 15u wordt een zondagmiddag vol met korte interventies à la surprise.
Tijdens de weekenden wordt de installatie door lokale kunstenaars bespeeld, onder wie
met Kaspar König, Rod Summers, Harold Schellinx en Los Dansing Queenc.

30 local and international artists were involved in the «Waiting in the wings» performance festival.
For a week they gained their creativity together to create a lively no-stage festival that lasted for three days.
Quiet a big effort for such a short time of performing.
For this reason we conceived «on the wing» exhibition.
An exhibition formed out of the props, sets and documentations of the «waiting in the wings» festival.
The absence of the performers has practical reasons – it means to be independent of 30 artists time and work
schedules and transportation-money. None the less it is also led by the interest in the experiment
– to transform live-art into a static form without losing its theatrical magic.
For each object for each document is written a scene, that is explaining their story and origin to the
spectators, or is inventing a new situation.
As in the festival, visitors will move through a live-Installation and are physically involved and
connected to the scenery.

Voor slechts 17 cent per dag beheert u één vierkante meter van Artspace Rondeel Maastricht (ARM).
Minimale huurtermijn is één jaar. Tijdens de KunstTour (22-24 mei) start de verkaveling. Het mooie is dat de totale huursom altijd aan de Maastrichtse cultuur ten goede komt. Of u nu kiest voor het podium, maisonette, muur of de backstage, u kiest voor één vierkante meter duurzaamheid,
kwaliteit en oprechte cultuur.
